Taco Terrier

Taco terrier, a popular choice with dog lovers, is a small and charming hybrid between the Toy Fox Terrier and Chihuahua. The taco terriers have large, dark, round eyes and the head similar to a fox, combining the characteristics of its parent breeds. With a muscular body like the Toy Fox Terrier, large pointed ears like the Chihuahua, and long, narrow muzzle, this breed has a well-proportioned body.

Temperament

Despite its small size, the Chihuahua and Terrier mix are quite energetic and stubborn. Although the taco terrier is least likely to alert its owners about the presence of trespassers, it can defend its family when it senses a possible threat. On being threatened, it does not back away easily and can even show aggression. Being affectionate, it likes an occasional cuddle from their owners. Due to its lovable and playful nature, it gets along well with kids. Since it can be wary of other small animals, keeping it away from other pets in the family is a good option.

Care

Exercise

Having an abundance of energy, these dogs require regular exercise like running and brisk walking for 30-40 minutes. As a fun-loving and lively breed, they are fond of games. Therefore, allowing them to run around and play in fenced backyards will provide them both mental and physical stimulation.

Grooming

Taco terriers are a low-maintenance breed with grooming needs like other dogs of its size and coat type. Apart from brushing their smooth coat with a firm-bristled brush, you need to look after their dental hygiene. Use quality dog toothpaste to brush their teeth every week and a mild soap for bathing only when required.

Health Problems

Although a healthy breed, taco terriers often inherit common health issues like patellar luxation, rheumatism, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, allergies, collapsing trachea, colds, and problems of gums from their parents. To ensure the optimal health of your pet dog take it to a vet for checkups every 3-4 months.

Training

Since these dogs are intelligent, they make the training process a lot easier. However, their stubbornness calls for the adoption of smooth and persistent training methods. Introduce the puppies to housebreaking and obedience training. Give them rewards when they obey your orders correctly, but be firm and consistent to prevent the development of any unwanted behavior.

Feeding

Like other small dogs, taco terriers should be served with 1/2-1 cup of formulated dry dog food. To ensure that they grow and thrive properly, include a source of protein like salmon, beef, or chicken in their diet. Also, make sure they drink adequate quantities of water regularly.

Interesting Facts

These dogs cannot tolerate cold and wet weather. They are often seen wearing a coat that keeps it warm and comfortable during the colder months. They are usually kept indoors for avoiding serious health issues in the winter.

I’ve had my taco terrier, Xena for more than 4 years now, couldn’t imagine my family’s lives without her. She is the sweetest, and loves my kids, so much I think she thinks they are her kids. I want to breed her, but she hasn’t found Mr. RIGHT, yet. I would like to keep the blood pure, so I am hoping to find her another taco terrier for the babies daddy. Anyone know of one we live near Vallejo, CA, Napa, CA. Let me know if u know of one near me.

I found mine in a remote area of a Texas farm road. She is the sweetest and most lovable little girl. I had her dewormed and vaccinated. She has gained weight since I found her. How she survived the predators, it’s a mystery to me. I don’t understand how people can dump their pets and puppies like that. I have seen several dogs along that same road but unable to catch them, I’m glad she came over to me. She’s my second rescue. Good thing I live in a ranch, so I can rescue more ????

Wow. We had the exact same exact experience as you in Texas. Found her running down a farm road headed towards a road with traffic. We pulled over and came straight to us. She had bites and ticks and predator wounds all over her. Its been a week now and can no longer see her bones anymore. She get along great with our cats, pits and chickens! Just love her.

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a Taco Terrier here in Las Vegas, NV. I paid $150 for her at a pet store close to my house. She is the sweetest, sassiest, smartest, most loving dog I’ve ever had! She is beautiful! She is blonde with golden eyes and a brown nose. She was so easy to train! I’m so in love! If anyone is interested in purchasing one, the pet store I bought her from is called Pet Kingdom. 2431 E. Tropicana Avenue. 89121. 702-451-9123. Google Pet Kingdom on Tropicana and Eastern in Las Vegas, NV for the website. Hopefully the owner can help you to find one!? She’s a very nice lady that owns the shop! Good luck! ❤ Christie and Triscuit ????????

So sorry on your loss Bryan. She is getting much love over the rainbow.
We just adopted a dog thru Adopt a pet, but also look at Petfinder. Check sites DAILY, and be quick to submit paperwork or you lose out. Ours was listed as a Yorkie Chihuahua mix, but at 16 wks and 5 lbs dont see Yorkie. After researching, seems like Chihuahua and toy fox terrier. We are very happy and gave a rescue dog from TN a new life, of love and fun. Had shots and was neutered and chipped. Good luck!
