The Skypoo is a cross between the Skye Terrier and the standard or miniature Poodle. Known for their charming looks, these are dogs with a very loyal and gentle disposition that can mingle well with anyone. Skypoos have a small to a medium-sized body (depending upon their standard/miniature Poodle parent) wholly covered with a soft coat. They have a round head with button-like eyes, a blunt muzzle and a dark nose tip. The legs are short but sturdy, while the tail hangs long downwards, completely covered with long hair.

Temperament and Behavior

Skypoos make wonderful family dogs because they are not only faithful and eager to please their family members but have a friendly disposition towards children as well as other pets. In return, these smart, little, playful dogs expect a little care and attention from their loved ones, in the sense that, they do not enjoy solitude and want a playmate that is ready to spend a couple of active hours with them every day. Because of their average size and obedient nature, Skypoos are also suitable for apartment living.

Care

Exercise

Skypoos are energetic dogs and play around inside its house, hence not requiring a lot of exercises. A daily run or a moderate walk for about half an hour is enough to keep your Skypoo contented.

Grooming

These dogs are average shedders. Brush them at least thrice a week to help them get rid of loose hair and keep the coat soft and clean. You do not need to bathe them unless it is necessary.

Health Problems

Like most crossbreeds, Skypoos have no known breed-specific health issues. They are otherwise healthy unless they inherit any conditions passed on to them genetically.

Training

  • As pets, Skypoos have very less behavioral issues and are quite trainable. However, since they fall in the segment of dogs having average intelligence, it is advisable to begin training when they are a puppy. This would not only make socialization easy but also help it grow up to a confident adult that can invent its ways of entertaining itself even when alone.
  • You should also find out some time daily to spend with your dog. Saying so, we do not merely mean the time you would take to train it, but also some moments of fun and games. If you have kids at home, ask them to make your Skypoo their playmate so that your dog never gets a chance to feel neglected.

Diet/Feeding

No more than 2½ to 3 cups of dry dog foods per day (both meals included) should be allotted for your pet since they have a minor tendency to get fat.
