Temperament

These calm, playful dogs are intelligent, quiet and well-behaved, and are also good with people, children, and other pets.

Care

Exercise

These toy-lover dogs love to play and can stay active all day, which could be a part of their exercise, if kept unleashed even inside small enclosed spaces, although taking them to regular walk is also important.

Grooming

Sheepadoodles can have their furry coats both straight and curly, which requires regular grooming like brushing few times weekly as also, trimming them when necessary, especially if that covers their eyes. Clean their ears at times to avoid infections.

Health Problems

The generally healthy breed might genetically develop issues like hip dysplasia, ear infection etc.

Training

These extremely intelligent canines can pick up training easily, provided the training is firm and consistently patient, including early socialization, while still a puppy. Also get them adapted to get used to be groomed by giving them initial body contacts to show affection and reassurance so that the puppy is not frightened and understand what the process is all about. Send them to a kindergarten class if possible, which should be more effective to make them refined and well-behaved and help them gel well with children and other pets.

Interesting Facts

  • Puppies breeded with a less-than-average size are known among the dog enthusiasts as Mini or Miniature Sheepadoodle.
  • Among the sheepadoodle breeders, it is very common to breed multi-generation crosses.
  • The sheepadoodle can be a very good guidance dog or health care service dog.

We are very interested in adopting a sheepadoodle as a companion for our beautiful 4 1/2 yo British bulldog Honey. Please let us know how to go about this. It doesn’t have to be a puppy but needs to be younger than Honey.

Can a goldendoodle and sheepdog mix be okay?

    • Sergey Uhanov (Certified Veterinarian) admin says:

      Hi!
Goldendoodle is a cross between the Golden Retriever and Poodle while the Sheepadoodle is a combination of Old English Sheepdog and Poodle. If you want to mate a Poodle cross like the Goldendoodle with a Sheepdog, contact local breeders or breed clubs to know about the possible health conditions and behavioral traits of such a mix.

We’re looking for a mini Sheepadoodle puppy or young dog for Christmas present to my daughter. We have a 14 year old Jack Russell who is the love of our life, and may not be around too much longer and we want another dog to see if he will liven up, and also to have another dog once he passes away. My 12 year old daughter loves this breed. She researched the breed and it’s the perfect breed for us!

  9. Dave says:

I’m not sure why this site would say sheepadoodles aren’t good with children – not only does every other site I’ve looked at characterize the sheepadoodle as a great family and kid friendly pet – my 6 month old sheepadoodle male is great with my 3yr old daughter and very interested and gentle with other kids at the park.

    • Jessi says:

I thought that was strange too. Even at the top of the page it says they are good with children. I have 7 year old twins and really would love to get one. Would you recommend?

  11. Sarah says:

Our 1 y.o. Sheepadoodle is 110lbs and constantly play bites. After a bath he loves to get muddy and covered in burs and run across our freshly-cleaned-black-slate-floors. All of this is after spending $5k in serious dog training. He constantly has horrible gas and a wet sloppy mouth that he loves to dry on our nice clean pants. We love him very much and wouldn’t trade him for anything.

Interested in finding out more sbout Minnie sheepadoodles. I live in Ala. Close to Pensacola,Fla. Thank you for info. I am concerned about them having a heavy coat. Curly would probably be better. The dog would be indoors most of the time, but exercising outside too. I have had a an old English sheepdog when my children were at home. She was a beautiful gentle, loving pet. And she lived to be 13 . Thank you for any I put you have for me. My pets are a member of the family and dear to me.
