The Foxhoodle is a medium- to big-size cross between an English Foxhound and a Poodle. They are known for their balanced temperament, playful instincts, and loving nature. They can either have a dense, curly coat of the Poodle parent, or the coarse, short, and fine coat of the English Foxhound. Either way, they have a longish face studded with a pair of dark almond-shaped eyes and expressive looks, along with a brown or black nose tip, as well as a pair of long hanging ears.

Temperament and Behavior

The Foxhoodles are gentle, social dogs that cherish the company of humans. Their easy-going, gentle nature has even made them comfortable with other pets of its family, including dogs. However, they can also be careful watchdogs, barking at strangers to alert their owners.

This affectionate canid makes great friends with the kids in its family, having a caring attitude towards them. However, supervision is recommended when little ones interact with this breed.

They are pretty energetic and lively and enjoy playing and outdoor activities.

They long to be the centre of attention to their loved ones, also needing mental stimulation from time to time, without which they might easily end up getting bored.

Care

Exercise

Take them out for daily walks and jogging since this energetic breed needs it regularly in order to keep its degrees of energy under a specific level. Since they also need a good amount of outdoor activities, it is advisable you take it to the nearest dog park, and allow it to run and play without a leash if you have an enclosed yard. Join your dog, if you can.

Grooming

The foxhoodles shed; so brushing is necessary to maintain hygiene. Especially, if your dog has a long coat, they need routine grooming. Attend its coat a few times every week. Brush it thoroughly since the playful foxhoodles are prone to get their hair matted easily.

Health Problems

No specific health problems are known, nor has been reported about this breed. However, possibility of genetic or general dog issues also can’t be ignored.

Training

Their intelligent nature and urge for grasping new things make them easy to train.

  • Since your dog loves to get introduced to new things, take them out to interesting places. Find pet and dog friendly malls, shopping centers, dog gymnasium, follow different routes every time you take your dog out for walks. Dog parks are always there where they can meet new friends and people.
  • To prevent it from getting easily bored provide your puppy with different kinds of dog toys and interactive games, and let it choose its own way of entertainment. While they are playing on their own, you can do your own household work, rather than sitting by its side, or continuously paying attention.
  • You can channelise its knack for learning in a positive way by teaching it some amusing tricks.. Teach your dog to high-5. It’s easy. After teaching your dog the simple sit command successfully, repeat the word ‘high five’ as a command tapping one of its feet while holding a treat in your other hand. Most dogs have the instinct to raise its foot to reach the treat. Once it does, hold your dog’s paws with your free hand, and give it the treat, and a lot of praises. Keep repeating the steps, until your dog gets used to it.
