Indian Dog Breeds
The number of people in India choosing to have a dog as a pet is always on the rise. However, due to excessive media attention, most people only want the famous European and American breeds. It has led to the over-breeding of these Western breeds and the negligence of the native dogs in this country. But it does not change the fact that India is home to many outstanding dog breeds – 21, to be exact.
Since there is a lack of proper infrastructure, most of these dogs just become strays and have to take care of their own survival. Over 60 million stray dogs are roaming the streets of the country. The good news is that the Indian Authorities have already started taking measures to protect and revive these native breeds.
