Hungarian Dog Breeds
Hungary is home to 9 working dog breeds raised for specific purposes, mainly hunting, guarding, and herding.
Most of these dogs arrived in the country with the Magyar people around the 9th century. The Magyars already had several dogs herding their sheep and cattle as they traveled around Eastern Europe. After they settled in the Carpathian Basin of Hungary, they started breeding and refining the characteristic and traits of their dogs to eventually come up with the breeds we see today.
