The Boston Huahua is a small cross breed dog known for its handy size and a sweet disposition. By virtue of its size and temperament, this offspring of the Boston Terrier and the Chihuahua could make its way safely into the households of dog lovers.

These are designer dogs carrying a proud, alert look. They have a strong, muscular body and sturdy forequarters, while the hindquarters are often stretched back slightly. They closely resemble the Boston Terrier. They have a square head, muzzle, and jawline, which often has a bulldog underbite. Their face is very expressive, studded with bright, round eyes and erect bat-like ears that are larger than the Chihuahua’s. The neck is short while the tail is long and dangling, gradually narrowing towards the tip. They move with a quick prancing trot, though they are quite fast when they move.

Temperament and Behavior

Because the temperamental characteristics of both its parents vary greatly, it is highly unpredictable how the temperament of this little dog would be. If the huahua has taken more to the side of its Boston parent, it will make a great family dog with a calm disposition. But if they are more to the Chihuahua side, they might not always be that friendly since Chihuahuas do attack sometimes, when provoked. This explains the reason as to why they are not always good for families with younger kids and pets.

The toy breed is both active and athletic and love to spend time with its family. They are curious good learners and are very protective of their family. They make good watchdogs. Just a little bit of suspicion on the dog’s part would lead to warning barks in order to alert its family members. This very behavior makes them uncomfortable when strangers are around.

Care

Exercise

These small dogs do not need vigorous exercise schedules. They are already active all day indoors. Take them out for a short walk every day, or may be a jogging since most of the individuals love to run. Alternately, you can also let them play in an open yard, if you have one. However, taking them to the dog park is also a great idea since this would also help them socialize well with other dogs.

Grooming

The low-shedding Boston huahuas are easy to groom. Brush them once to twice a week, which should be enough to keep dirt off and maintain the coat’s shape. However, brushing them more frequently is always a healthy option.

These toy dogs do not do well in extreme climatic conditions- too much of heat or cold. Keep them away from direct sunlight during summer and use a sweater in winter to make your dog feel comfortable. Bathe them once in a while, i.e., only when you think it needs one.

Health Problems

Boston huahuas are sturdy dogs. Like other cross dogs, these dogs are not vulnerable to picking up diseases and have health problems that are specific to the individuals of this breed.

Training

Though they are quick learners, giving them training formally might be somewhat difficult for you mostly when your dog has taken the chihuahua’s side, or may be a little obstinate-natured. Try new tricks like praising or patting them once in a while when they could successfully learn something. Give them food treats and interact with them in a sweet note, since rudeness might prove to be abortive in the process of training. The best would be if you would train them from the time of adoption from the breeders or rescues.

Socialize them with your friends, neighbors, pets as much as you can, since a well-socialized puppy would grow up to a well-behaved adult dog. Give them all the etiquette training, like housebreaking and obedience, right from this age. But be consistent while you train your Boston huahua. Make sure that you have the control in your hand (and never the vice versa). Let your dog understand that it’s you who is the real leader of its ‘pack’.

Diet/Feeding

No breed-specific meal is recommended. Choose high quality, nutrition-rich foods for your pet. Ask for the pack that is meant for dogs of its size and energy levels. The quantity is the same like other small dogs. Though, you can always serve homemade dishes to keep your little one happy.

I AM PICKING UP MY BOCHI ON JUNE 22nd. He is just beautiful. His name is Winston Churchill Winston (for short). Could I get some ideas about the care of this little guy that I am going to absolutely love. We had a beagle mix that was like no other dog that I knew or that I owned. He was just an angel that we had for only one year, and he died unexpected one day. We will always have our Lincoln in our hearts and in our home.

I rescued Molly about 6 mos. ago and she and I immediately bonded. She is well behaved, does not bark, and a wonderful companion dog, especially for someone living in an apartment. She loves everybody and everybody loves her. She definitely is my best friend. Most of all, I like how she likes to cover herself up when she is ready to go to sleep and not be disturbed.
