The Beagle Bull, often erroneously referred to as Beaglebull, is a medium-sized cross between an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Beagle. It exhibits the characteristic friendliness of a beagle along with the protective nature of a pit bull. This is a breed of dog with a well-muscled body, round or almond-shaped eyes, medium-sized ears, and a slightly tapered tail. If properly trained and socialized, the beagle bulls make a great companion pet.

Temperament and Behavior

The beagle bulls are strong, confident, and enthusiastic. Being affectionate by nature, they express a great degree of love to not just their family but also strangers. Their gentleness combined with their eagerness to please people does not make them a prolific guard dog. They bond closely to their families and do not like to stay alone for a long time. The beagle bulls are not known to bark much, but when they do, they exhibit the distinctive vocalization of a beagle.

However, they are quite territorial just like their pit bull parents. When threatened, they will defend their family to the death. These dogs have a willingness to work, and they love to include themselves in everything that happens around them.

The moderately active and playful beagle bulls are tolerant to kids, and if trained early, they will become ideal playmates. However, they may show some aggression towards other dogs and pets because of their terrier ancestry. Therefore, supervision is necessary when they are around other household pets.

Care

Exercise

An hour of regular activity including walking, running, playing, or other forms of exercising are needed for this dog. Make sure that your pet is not running loose. Always keep it on a leash when out for a walk or jog to prevent it from fighting with other pets. Since it loves to chew, provide plenty of tough toys that help keep its powerful jaws busy.

Grooming

Its coat requires simple regular brushing with a firm, stiff brush. In order to maintain the shine and texture, use a cloth to wipe down its fur gently. While your pet can be bathed as often as needed, with the beagle bull it should not exceed once a month. It is crucial to keep dirt, bacteria, and water out since its ears can have infections. Use medicated ear wipes to wipe them clean. Brush its teeth every week to improve your dog’s overall dental health. You may also give your beagle bull some dental treats that help in reducing plaque and tartar buildup.

Health Problems

The beagle-pit bull mix may be affected by one or more of the canine diseases including hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, allergies, and heart problems such as aortic stenosis. To protect a beagle bull puppy from parvovirus, vaccination is necessary starting at 39 days after birth. It should be vaccinated twice a month for up to 4 months of age. At 8 months, it should again be vaccinated, and then as recommended by the veterinarian.

Training

This breed of dog has the tendency towards being stubborn and dominating, which mixed with its strength can make it difficult to manage. To overcome these behavioral issues, you need to offer firm, fair, and consistent training, and let it know that you are its leader. Start familiarizing your pet with obedience commands early in its life, and keep practicing so that it does not lose its new skills. Early socialization and training also help in minimizing its aggression towards other pets.

Feeding

The serving size and a solid feeding schedule – these are two of the most important aspects of feeding your beagle bull. The schedule should be varied depending on your pet’s age. Puppies need to consume more calories as they are continuously growing. Commercial dog foods are an excellent addition to your dog’s diet, but it should be given twice a day with the daily amount being 1.5-2 cups. Raw foods such as diced potatoes and carrot shavings can be incorporated in its diet.
