Affenshire
The Affenshire is a cross between the Affenpinscher and the Yorkshire Terrier. Known for their cute looks, these toy dogs have compactly-built bodies covered with long hair, with relatively less hair near the paws and face. Puppies are born black with tan points and get their adult coats only after a year. They have a flat head with floppy ears, round eyes, and a medium size muzzle.

Temperament and Behavior
The Affenshire is an affectionate and loyal dog that doesn’t take long to create a bond with its family members. However, they are also somewhat stubborn and might display curiousness. Many individuals have also been seen to be quite adventurous like trying to explore the empty areas in your backyard or getting too close to spiders or similar creatures, which might not be too safe for these little dogs.
Affenshire dogs are equally good with the kids of all ages, as well as with other pets in the family. This little dog can be very protective when it comes to keeping a watch on its house and the loved ones. With an intelligent disposition, this dog is a quick learner and can pick up training quickly.
Care
Exercise
Involve your kids in playing games with your pet inside an open yard, while you keep its leash away. They love activities and need it to stay fit, as well as in a happy mood. Take your dog out for a walk and/or jog twice a day for 20-30 minutes.
Grooming
Lightly brush the long coat of your dog for 2 to 3 times every week. You can also take it to a professional groomer once a month, to keep its ears clean.
Health Problems
Like most crosses, the Affenshire dogs do not suffer from any health problems unique to them. However, general health issues like hip dysplasia, ear infection, etc. are not uncommon in cross breeds. So, never skip the scheduled appointments with your vet.
Training
- If they commit any mistake, never punish them. Your pup might then end up getting the signal of not to come to you on command. Rather, go close to your dog and give playful gestures to divert its attention. The slightest frustration in your tone may make your dog associate training with your unhappiness.
- If you sense that your puppy bears some strains of obstinacy, it is only the right obedience training that can rectify it. Begin with training your dog to follow you, when you are with it, or just go out for a stroll.
- Be very clear about the behavior you are expecting from it before letting your dog know what you ‘don’t want it to do’. Dogs, in general, cannot always extrapolate situations; for instance, if your puppy has the habit of biting shoes, and if you would directly say ‘no’ to it, it might learn to chew your belt or wallet. Under such situations, teach your dog to ‘halt’ or ‘sit’ instead.
Diet/Feeding
Provide them with 2 cups of kibbles every day. Get it from a good pet store to ensure quality.
