Pinny-Poo is a cross between the Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin) and Poodle (toy or standard). These little dogs are medium to tiny by size, depending upon the size of its poodle parent. With their protective, possessive nature, these toy dogs make a good watchdog as well.
They can either have a short coat like the min pin, or a long one like the poodle. Their elongated face ends in a prominent, dark muzzle and small beadlike eyes. Their triangular ears covered with very short ear hair, hang down to their cheeks. Considering their characteristics and good behavior, they can be a good choice for apartment dwellers.

Temperament and Behavior

Like the Miniature Pinscher, these dogs are highly energetic, and are always active all day. Generally quiet, as they are, they would bark aloud, drawing the attention of its owner if it finds a stranger around, or comes across anything suspicious. They would also not entertain anyone handling its possessions.

Otherwise good with kids, it is not safe to let it play with your children since rough handling might result in an accident or hurt your little dog somehow. Though they are not always good with other breeds, there are instances where they have shown to be smart and mingle with cats or other pets in the family.

These dogs make great companions to their family members, and are known for their caring nature and sweet disposition. They are protective of those they love and would always expect spending more and more time with them.

Care

Exercise

Though, being little dogs, the Pinnypoos do not need lots of space, but they love to run around and play, jump high, dig and so on. For this, it is always good if you have an enclosed yard for this playful canine. Keep it without a leash when at home. They would remain active all day, playing with your family members, while burning their calories at the same time. However, like other dogs, take them out for a short walk or jog ever day. They are great runners.

Grooming

A weekly brushing is always a wise choice, especially if your pinny has a long coat. Although you can brush it several times, if it needs. This would help keep dead hairs away and keep the flippant dog clean, rest assured. Keep an eye for ear infections, since it is a basic requirement for all floppy-eared dogs. Hanging ears keep the inner ear warm, and thus promoting the growth of microbes.

Health Problems

Like most other crosses, your poo is also less vulnerable to diseases, except for the general dog issues related to dysplasia, allergies, periodontal diseases, etc. Be sure to take them to the vet for checkups at stipulated intervals.

Training

Though they are born intelligent, training a Pinny Poo might require a good level of patience at times. Some pinnies can be difficult to train, and hence, it is always advisable to begin training right from the time when you bring your puppy home from your breeders. Because they are often restless and protective, teach them obedience and the etiquette of good behavior with your friends and neighbors, or other dogs. Socialize them well, so that there would be no behavioral issues in future. Also, take the lead when you take your dog out for a walk, and act like the leader always. This should also make it clear to them that it’s you who is the leader of its ‘pack’.

Diet/Feeding

Both dry and wet foods are good for your pinnypoo. But make sure, it gets the best. Do not compromise with the quality of food. Just insist on such foods that are meant for small but energetic dogs. The quantity should be the same as other breeds of its size.

Interesting Facts

  • A pinny poo playing with leaves is a common scene.
  • Though adaptable to all weather conditions, pinny poos might get cold in cold weathers and feel more comfortable in sweaters.

Anyone else have this problem? I had my dog potty trained when we first got her, but now that shes 6 months old, she no longer uses the pee pad and goes pee/bm everywhere else but the pad. Also she has a thing for my underwear and chewing dirty panty liners and pads. How do I correct this? It’s so gross dealing with this problem.

Please don’t go to breeders. There are so many wonderful, wonderful dogs being put down at the pound every day because there just aren’t as many homes as their are dogs. Please consider sharing yours with one of the many deserving dogs that already exist–instead of encouraging people to make more dogs for money, when that causes so much suffering (and death) to other dogs.

I have found that some rehoming centres make it so difficult to adopt that you just give up, they play into the hands of dog breeders.
