Breed Details

Crossed between the goldendoodle (cross of labradoodle and poodle) and the labradoodle, (cross of poodle and labrador retriever), the genetic structure of the double doodle is intriguing, which in turn affect the varied characteristics between individuals of the breed.

Temperament and Behavior

This cool-headed, family-oriented, sociable dog loves being around people it loves – its owner, family, children and other pets, with whom they would mix well, but would bark at strangers to alert its family. They are adjustable with all climates, however they do not do well in cold weathers. Basically, their personality might vary from individual to individual.

Care

Exercise

Regularly, an average to fair amount of exercise is necessary for these dogs, just like a brain gym schedule is also recommended by owners and breeders. Take them out for long walks and allow them to play around with children and family members to retain their energy and good health.

Grooming

With each individual varying differently, these dogs might have curly to silky to wiry coat, with the straighter variety needing less brushing. Also, at times, brush their teeth their teeth, clip their nails and check their ears, eyes and skin for rashes or infections.

Health Problems

With no breed-specific problems, their health syndromes and issues with diseases vary from individual to individual, depending upon their generation or, which gene they inherited. However, to ward off possibilities of general dog-health issues, seek for breeders that can provide health clearance certificate while buying your puppy.

Training

The prudent and obedient double doodles can pick up training, tricks and commands readily, provided the puppies are given etiquette and socialization training firmly, setting rules clearly by an experienced owner, who can be its ‘pack leader’, which would in turn keep away behavioral problems, when adult.

Feeding

Begin with pet food that the breeder was feeding. You can feed it with Fromm. Also, Innova Evo, Solid Gold and Blue Wilderness (that is made by Blue Buffalo) are included in the top notch food-list too. For the high quality dry food, feed 1 to 2 cups to the growing puppies and 2 ½ to 3 cups to the grown-up adults. Divide this into two equal meals.

Interesting Facts

  • Double doodles are also known for their skills in narcotics detection, retrieving, searching, hunting and rescuing.
