In spite of being a healthy and nutritious food, there are innumerable controversies about giving pomegranate to dogs. Being filled with seeds, it may be hard to digest, causing the dog to have stomach pain or even vomit. However, if your pet has a sound digestive system and is not allergic to such seedy fruits like pomegranate, you can try experimenting, by adding small amounts of it (mashed or juice) to his food.

Can dogs have pomegranate juice

Dogs should not be allowed to ingest the seeds directly.  If you want your four-legged friend to get a taste of this sweet fruit, add a spoonful of pomegranate juice to their meals.

Are pomegranate good for dogs

It is rich in Vitamin C and fiber, low in calories without any cholesterol or saturated fat. Because of its antioxidant properties, pomegranate juice is used in certain antioxidant supplements for canines.

Is pomegranate bad or harmful for dogs

Your dog’s gastrointestinal tract is not able to break down the tannins and ellagic acids present in pomegranates, which might be one of the reasons for them to throw up.

Dogs may love eating this fruit because of its sweet taste though most of them may not be able to digest it well. Although, it is not poisonous or life-threatening, monitor your dog’s behavior if he has eaten too much of the seeds. If you find him vomiting, twitching with pain or showing any other symptoms that are not normal take him to a vet immediately.
